Confident Mets Player Proclaims Lineup As ‘best’ In Baseball

Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez has some big goals for the 2025 season.

“Win the World Series,” Alvarez said of his personal ambitions, via SNY. “That is going to be very good if I can win the World Series.”

Alvarez spoke from training camp down in Port. St. Lucie, where Mets pitchers and catchers report this week.

“I think it’s going to be a great lineup,” he said. I think we are the best lineup in the whole baseball. We have Pete [Alonso], we have a little bit of everything.

“... We have hitting guys, we have power hitters. We have everything… we can fight with any team.”

Alvarez had a productive start to the 2024 season before he suffered a left-thumb strain that kept him out of the lineup for nearly two months.

In 342 plate appearances, the 23-year-old hit .237 with a .710 OPS and 11 home runs. He had hit 25 homers in 2023.

Alvarez’s lineup certainly got a boost this offseason with the signing of Juan Soto. The slugging outfielder had the best 162-game season of his career in 2024 with the Yankees, hitting 288 with a .989 OPS and posting career highs in hits (156), run scored (128) and home runs (41).
